Together, let’s help these kids become well-rounded with clean water – nutritious food – good eyesight – and a chance to play ball!

To assist under privileged children in Central America with their nutritional needs, access to clean water and vision care, while providing a healthy environment for spiritual, social and physical growth through the provision of professional level sports instruction and coaching.

FROM PAUL PETERS, Founder and Director

While growing up in Oklahoma, I had the opportunity to play baseball and other sports on almost a daily basis and I learned not only the value of sports but also the value of relationships with teammates and coaches, and how to be respectful to all people. Those values have stayed with me my entire life and have given me some of my most cherished memories.

Those are the very reasons for establishing the Roy Bear Foundation – to provide as many kids as possible with those same values and more.

Those are the very reasons for establishing the Roy Bear Foundation – to provide as many kids as possible with those same values and more.

Even before my son Roy was born, I coached young boys and girls primarily in baseball and football. The age groups I was most comfortable working with were kids from six to twelve years old. During the early 1990s, when my own son began said age group, I coached him and others his age until he was in high school.

Also, during that time, I became a certified teaching professional with the United States Tennis Association and as of 2015, I am still certified. Some of the best memories I have of my son are playing baseball, football, tennis, and even basketball. As stated, “Roy” was my son’s first name and “Bear” has been a nickname of mine since playing ball in high school. The primary reason for the Roy Bear Foundation is to honor my son.

I was watching a television documentary on how the United States is sending school teachers, doctors, etc. but not coaches, to third world countries. Very simply, it is my belief that to be a wellrounded kid, you need to play ball. I have had a true vision of a little league “Field of Dreams” situated in a third world country for kids who do not have a real chance to play ball or much else. Also, the kids that I saw in this vision had on uniforms… what kid doesn’t love a uniform?

I intend to see this vision come to fruition utilizing all methods available within my power. My success in the oil business has provided me with the means to provide this opportunity. It is my present and future goal and dreams.

Along those same lines, my great uncle, Dr. John L Peters, a chaplain in WWII and two-time Nobel Peace prize nominee, founded World Neighbors, an organization that has helped over 25 million souls in over 45 countries. The seed of the idea for World Neighbors began with his 1951 sermon, “Let’s Deal with Basic Issues.” At the Roy Bear Foundation we want to help perpetuate the legacy of Dr. Peters.

From Paul Peters: “Due to the downturn in the oil and gas industry, I have not been able to fully devote my time and finances to the foundation as I have in the past. I am now recovering in all departments of my life, and again have the time to give the foundation the attention it deserves. I am convinced, without doubt, the answer has been, is now, and will always be with the children. Help me to help them. Please say a prayer for the foundation.”

To further understand the work that needs to be carried out in Guatemala by World Neighbors, you’re invited to read the following five proposals, each describing a specific need:

Clean stoves for Guatemala

Credit groups for Guatemala

Dry outhouses and hygiene education for Guatemala

Rainwater Harvesting for Guatemala

Water purification for Guatemala

Please consider making a tax-exempt donation to the Roy Bear Foundation to enhance our work in Guatemala. Your dollars will help with the purchase of equipment, land development supplies and to fund the Little League of Dreams sports programs. A portion of donations will also go to World Neighbors as a grant to be used specifically for clean water, nutritious food, and development programs in Guatemala.

Even a donation of just a few hundred dollars can help provide a child with clean water, nutritious food and the basic sports equipment for a well-rounded life.

On our donation page you’ll also see comprehensive reports on where your money goes and the progress we’re making in Guatemala.
